LAXEN
Max capacity: 12 passengers
Laxen is a traditional Finnish fiskari boat, offering a cruise experience rich with the long history of the archipelago.
Handcrafted during the winter of 1971–72 in Emäsalo by Nils Uddström, the boat served him until 1995. After that, Laxen was used in the Turku archipelago as a transport boat for a summer camp, before becoming a private cottage boat.
Later, it was sold to Helsinki and operated as a charter boat. In winter 2023, Laxen was brought back from Suomenlinna and carefully restored during the spring.
Now, LAXEN is once again home in the Porvoo archipelago – carrying cruise passengers through the very waters it was originally built for.
A Few Examples of Private Cruises
Poukama – Old town of Porvoo – Poukama
Duration app. 3 h
The cruise departs from Poukama’s pier and heads towards the Porvoo River.
Our route takes us past Hamar and the historic sawmill islands. Soon, we reach the river mouth and begin our journey upstream towards the heart of Porvoo.
Before returning to Poukama, we’ll take a moment to admire the charming Old Town of Porvoo – a place full of history and atmosphere.
Campfire Coffee Cruises
Duration: 2–3 hours depending on the departure location.
Our traditional campfire coffee cruises take you to the scenic islands of Kunuholma, Mäntysaari, or Äggskär.
We’ll land on one of the islands to brew fresh coffee over an open fire using a soot-blackened kettle, just like in the old days. While the coffee brews, we’ll roast stick buns (“tikkupulla”) over the flames.
After enjoying our treats, we’ll head back along a slightly different route, taking in new views on the return journey.
Fish Soup Cruises
Duration: approx. 2.5–3.5 hours, depending on the departure location.
Our fish soup cruises take you to the peaceful islands of Kunuholma, Mäntysaari or Äggskär.
After landing, we enjoy a delicious fish soup prepared by Poukama’s kitchen – depending on availability, the soup may feature salmon, zander, or whitefish.
For dessert, we brew traditional campfire coffee (“nokipannukahvi”) and serve it with a sweet pastry.
After the meal, we return to the starting point along a slightly different scenic route.
Archipelago cruises
Duration: approx. 2–3 hours, depending on the departure location.
We cruise in the Porvoo archipelago. We enjoy a leisurely pace and the wonders of the surrounding nature.
The crew will tell you stories about history and nature.
